Single Gender Classes
By SARAH ADAMS, On 6/23/10 11:48 PM

I've had limited experience a number of years ago with single gender classes.  In one case, my colleagues and I taught one three-week unit with our male and female students in separate sections.  These were 11th grade students who were studying U.S. history and the changes for women from WW2 on.  I taught them math in these gender separate classes.  I found that more of the female students took leadership roles in the single gender classes.  Males often dominate classroom discussions even when there are only one or two of them in a class of 25 students.
